Terms of Service | FigCanvas

1. Acceptance

By accessing or using FigCanvas, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the service. These terms apply to all visitors, registered users, researchers, students, and educators.

2. What FigCanvas provides

FigCanvas is an AI-powered platform for creating scientific figures. The service includes:

·AI-generated scientific illustrations from text descriptions
·Data visualization from uploaded CSV/Excel files
·Flowchart and diagram editor
·Interactive canvas editor with multi-panel composition
·Code execution in sandboxed environments
·Export in PNG (all plans) and SVG and PDF (paid plans)

We may modify, update, or discontinue features at any time. We will notify users of significant changes.

3. Your account

You are responsible for:

·Providing accurate account information
·Keeping your login credentials secure
·All activity that occurs under your account

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

·Use the service for illegal purposes
·Upload malicious code or attempt unauthorized access
·Scrape or bulk-download content from the platform
·Circumvent rate limits or abuse AI features
·Create intentionally misleading or fraudulent scientific visualizations
·Reverse-engineer AI models used by the platform
·Disrupt the service or interfere with other users

5. Your content

You own your uploaded data, text prompts, and the projects you create. By using the service, you grant FigCanvas a limited license to store, process, and display your content as needed to operate the platform (for example, rendering your projects and generating AI output). This license does not include using your content to train AI models, on any plan. This license ends when you delete your content or account.

6. AI-generated content

·You own the figures you create with FigCanvas, to the extent the law allows ownership of AI-assisted output. How you may use them depends on the plan you were on when you exported them (see section 7)
·You are responsible for verifying the accuracy of AI-generated content before publishing
·AI may produce different results for identical inputs
·Journals and publishers set their own policies on AI-generated images. Those policies are separate from this license: FigCanvas granting you publication rights does not mean a given journal will accept an AI-generated figure. Check the journal's policy and disclose AI assistance where it is required

7. License for generated figures

A plain-language summary of this section is on the License page. If the two differ, this section controls.

7.1 Free plan

·Free exports are PNG files that carry a FigCanvas watermark
·You may use free exports for non-commercial purposes only
·You may publish free exports in journal articles, preprints, theses, dissertations, conference posters, academic talks and teaching materials, provided you credit FigCanvas in the figure legend and in the acknowledgments with the text "Created with FigCanvas (figcanvas.com)"
·You may not remove, crop out, cover or otherwise obscure the watermark on a free export, by hand or with any tool

7.2 Paid plans

·Figures exported while you have an active Pro subscription or unexpired Credit Pack credits are watermark-free
·You may use them for any lawful purpose, including commercial use, with no attribution required and no per-figure license

7.3 What counts as commercial use

Commercial use includes company marketing and advertising, products or materials that are sold, paid courses, and internal or external materials of pharmaceutical, biotech or other for-profit companies.

Commercial use does not include journal articles, preprints, theses and dissertations, academic talks and posters, grant applications, or teaching at an educational institution, even when a journal charges fees or a researcher is paid a salary.

7.4 After you cancel

Figures you exported while your paid plan was active keep their paid-plan rights permanently, including after you cancel or your credits expire. Figures you export after that follow the free-plan rules.

7.5 Bonus and promotional credits

Sign-up credits, daily credits, referral rewards and other promotional or gifted credits do not make an account a paid plan. Figures exported with them on an account without an active paid plan follow the free-plan rules.

8. Reference figures

FigCanvas provides access to published research figures as style references. These figures are sourced from open-access literature and are displayed for reference purposes only. They are not included in your exports and may not be used as your own work. Always cite original sources when referencing published research.

9. Payments and subscriptions

Free accounts include daily credits and watermarked PNG exports under the free-plan license in section 7. Pro subscriptions are billed monthly or annually; Credit Packs are one-time purchases whose credits expire 30 days after purchase. You can cancel your subscription at any time; access continues until the end of your billing period. Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis.

10. Privacy

Your use of FigCanvas is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect your data.

11. Disclaimers

FigCanvas is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of AI-generated content for any particular purpose. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.

12. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms. You can delete your account at any time through the settings page. Upon deletion, your data will be removed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

13. Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance.
